The Louisiana State Capitol Building is one of the most significant landmarks of the city of Baton Rouge in Louisiana. This 34 story structure is the tallest capitol building in Unites States & houses the Governor’s office, Louisiana State Legislature & the executive branch.

Spread on a 27-acre tract in Downtown Baton Rouge close to the Mississippi River, the Louisiana State Capitol is a National Historic Landmark. In fact, the building with its unique sculptures is the

best place to get a peak into the history of Louisiana & United States. The series of steps leading to the main entrance of the building is something you can’t miss to notice. Each step carries the name of one US state in their order of admittance to the Union. The states of Hawaii & Alaska are listed together on the 49th step.

One of the most distinguished & recognized examples of Gothic architecture, the Louisiana State Capitol houses numerous state-of-the-art exhibits. Included here are sculptures by Adolph Alexander Weinman, Lorado Taft, Ulric Ellerhusen & many others. Also featured are murals by Jules Guerin. Interestingly, the Capitol also served as the location for the famous film All The King’s Men.
